Flight Sim Wiki

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was an American attack airplane manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company.

Summary[]

The Skyraider, or affectionately referred to as the ‘Spad’, paid its dues over Korea and Vietnam, providing close air support to boots on the ground. First entering service in late 1946 as the AD-1, the A-1H is the culmination of decades of refinements and upgrades done to the original airframe, bringing its official designation up to the AD-6.

During its course of service, the Skyraider was famous for its ability to roll with the punches, and quickly became a favorite amongst both troops and pilots for its durability and weapons delivery capabilities. Many are surely aware of the A-10 and its legendary prowess, but the A-1H is the father of the venerable Hawg: the Skyraider largely pioneered and validated the concept of close air support, after all.
