Flight Sim Wiki

The Bell 47 is a civil utility helicopter and retired military utility helicopter manufactured by Bell Aircraft.

Summary[]

The 47G is a single-engine, two-blade helicopter produced by Bell Aircraft of the United States. The groundbreaking 47G took its first flight on December 8, 1945 and became the first helicopter certified for civilian use in March of 1946. More than 5,000 units of the 47G were produced, making it one of the most noteworthy of rotary wing aircraft in aviation history. It was used by the military, by NASA, and, in 1958, was the first helicopter to fly a television news crew.

The Bell 47G, which can accomodate one pilot and one passenger, has a distinctive profile comprising a bubble canopy and a lattice tail boom. It's powered by a six-cylinder Lycoming TVO-435-F1A engine that produces 280 horsepower that turns its main rotor system and tail rotor. The 47G has a range of 246 miles, a top speed of 105 miles per hour, and it cruises a 84 mph. It climbs at 860 feet per minute and has a ceiling of 10,000 feet.

An icon of aviation, the Bell 47G was one of the great pioneers of rotary wing flight. Pilots who take the helm of this helicopter immediately recognize the enduring significance of this craft, and push its reputation forward with each flight.
